University student acquitted of rape and sexual assaults

Emma Goodall KC represented A who was aged eighteen at the time of the allegations and twenty-two when the case was brought to trial. The alleged offending, which occurred at the conclusion of a night out, was observed by eyewitnesses and captured on CCTV footage. It was the prosecution case that the complainant, who said she had no memory of the events, lacked the capacity to consent. Reliance was placed on toxicology evidence. Through sensitive cross-examination and challenge to the expert evidence Emma was able to undermine the prosecution narrative. The jury found A unanimously not guilty of all counts in less than half an hour.

Emma Goodall KC was privately instructed by Harvey Fox of Freemans Solicitors.
