Tim Moloney QC and Conan Fegan, instructed by Richard Egan and Jim Meyer of Tuckers Solicitors, represented an alleged ringleader of a people smuggling conspiracy that led to the deaths of 39 Vietnamese migrants in a lorry container in Purfleet, Essex. In August 2020, Ronan Hughes pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to 39 counts of manslaughter and conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration following his extradition from Ireland to the United Kingdom. On Friday 22 January, at the Central Criminal Court, Mr. Justice Sweeney sentenced him to a determinate term of imprisonment of 20 years.
