FAMILY REUNION FOR YOUNG REFUGEES - TRAINING WITH THE MIGRANTS' LAW PROJECT, ASYLUM AID

Monday 30th October 2023 | 14:00 - 17:30 | Hybrid

Join us for a training on Family Reunion with The Migrants' Law Project, Asylum Aid, on Monday, 30th October at Doughty Street Chambers. We will cover complex refugee family reunion applications for children and young people in the UK who want their family to join them, or for children and young people stranded outside the UK who wish to join siblings or, extended family in the UK.

Refugee family reunion is becoming increasingly complex with challenges accessing the application process, the introduction of a fee waiver policy; changes to the Immigration Rules; and deteriorating circumstances in many of the countries in which the Applicants are located.

Michelle Knorr, Doughty Street Chambers, and Anastasia Solopova, Asylum Aid, will address some of the particularly tricky areas, such as: what to do where there is no VAC; fee waivers; which application form to use; how to win outside the rules applications; how to get essentials e.g. exit visas, ID, DNA testing done in difficult circumstances.

This training is intended to cover the entire application process:

  • The Immigration Rules (particularly Paragraph 297 and Appendix Child staying with or joining a Non-Parent Relative (protection) and applications Outside the Rules.
  • Fee waivers
  • Which evidence to gather
  • What to do if the Applicant is unable to attend a VAC
  • Appeals
  • Once the visa is granted: arranging travel to the UK
  • Support on arrival to the UK
