International Women's Day Celebration 2025: the Transformative Power of Art
On 8 March 2025, Doughty Street Chambers will mark International Women’s Day with an afternoon of powerful storytelling, performance, and artistic expression.
This year, we invite you to explore the transformative power of speech, theatre, music, poetry, and film—all tools that inspire change, empower voices, and drive action across generations.
What to Expect
In conversation
Tatyana Eatwell (Doughty Street Chambers) in conversation with award-winning Syrian journalist, filmmaker and activist, Waad Al-Kateab, featuring excerpts from her Academy Award nominated film For Sama.
Spoken Word & Theatre
· Kat Francois, slam poet, playwright, and comedian will share her powerful poetry including a specially commissioned piece.
· Scenes from Lost Mothers, a play by Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti, created in collaboration with Clean Break Theatre Company and the University of Hertfordshire, and performed by women with experience of the criminal justice system.
Panel Discussion
Following the play, a panel discussion chaired by Maya Sikand KC (Doughty Street Chambers) will feature:

Live Music
A special performance by Kristina O’Connor (aka Tarantina), activist, singer, and songwriter, who will perform her song Heal.

Food & Drinks: After the performances and discussions, guests will enjoy a drinks reception and traditional Bangladeshi cuisine catered by OITIJ-JO Kitchen, a woman-led project celebrating Bengali culture.

This year Doughty Street Chambers is collecting pre-loved winter clothing for Women for Refugee Women. Full details to follow.
The cost of a ticket to attend the event does not include any payment to any of the charities we support. We invite those attending to make even a small donation to support Clean Break and Birth Companions and their hugely important work.
