Discussing their new book: Vicarious Trauma in the Legal Profession: a practical guide to trauma, burnout and collective care

Wednesday 17th March 2021 | 18:00 – 19:00

“This book is a wake-up call about what is happening to law and access to justice – but it is also a clarion as to what is happening to lawyers.”

          - Baroness Helena Kennedy QC

Doughty Street’s Wellbeing Team, in conjunction with Legal Action Group, invites you to celebrate the launch of a pioneering new book about trauma, burnout and collective care in the legal profession.

Vicarious Trauma in the Legal Profession is essential reading for social justice lawyers across many areas of law, including solicitors, barristers, legal executives, paralegals and legal assistants – because unfortunately we are all at risk of burnout. The book should also be required reading for HR managers, practice managers, clerks and those in charge of regulating the professions.

Please join us on Wednesday 17th March at 18:00 when Mary-Rachel McCabe, the chair of Doughty Street’s Wellbeing Team, will discuss the themes of the book – and how to ensure the profession does not only pay lip service to lawyers’ wellbeing - with its authors: Rachel Francis, a barrister at One Pump Court Chambers and Joanna Fleck, a consultant, teacher and writer working across a range of projects at the intersection of mental health, physical health and social justice.

This is an opportunity to hear directly from Rachel and Joanna about what prompted them to write the book, and to hear their key strategies for addressing burnout.

There will be a Q & A following the discussion, but if you have any questions you would like to send in advance, please email them to: events@doughtystreet.co.uk.

*Anyone who attends this webinar will be provided with a code for 20% discount on the book.*
