World Refugee Day: Is the Convention broken?

Tuesday 20th June 2023 | 3-4.30pm BST | Online via Zoom

Doughty Street Chambers' Immigration Team invite you to join their webinar on World Refugee Day: Is the Convention broken?

What impact do burden-shifting and externalisation programmes have on the Convention’s scheme? What difference does the language we use about refugees make? What can we do about this? On World Refugee Day, the panel will examine these questions from a theoretical and historical perspective, ultimately assessing how practitioners and academics might address the ever-increasing threats to the Convention.

Speakers:

Leonie Hirst, Barrister at Doughty Street Chambers

Sarah Dobbie, Barrister at Doughty Street Chambers

Jelia Sane, Barrister at Doughty Street Chambers

Dr Madeline Garlick, Chief of the Protection Policy and Legal Advice Section at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
