Acquitted of murder – Melanie Simpson KC and Harriet Johnson act

Melanie Simpson KC and Harriet Johnson have secured the acquittal of their client, SM, who was charged with murder following a stabbing amidst a multi-handed brawl in Derby. SM was charged jointly with four others in the joint enterprise trial, and was alleged by the prosecution to be the person responsible for stabbing the deceased. SM himself had received serious head injuries after being repeatedly hit to the head with a claw hammer by the deceased during the violence. Following a trial at Leicester Crown Court SM was acquitted of murder and of a further charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to another man.
