Alasdair Mackenzie successfully appeals against jazz singer’s removal from UK

The appeal of a Glasgow-born jazz singer, threatened by the Home Office with removal to Nigeria, has been allowed by the First-tier Tribunal.

The FTT Judge accepted arguments that Bumi Thomas’s long residence in the UK, her family ties and her contribution to the country’s cultural life meant that her removal would breach Article 8 of the ECHR. Alasdair Mackenzie of Doughty Street Chambers represented Bumi Thomas, instructed by Jamie Bell at Duncan Lewis Solicitors.
