Amal Clooney Addresses United Nations Security Council on Accountability for Sexual Violence in Conflict

New York: Amal Clooney, a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers, addressed the United National Security Council on the topic of accountability for sexual violence in conflict, alongside her client, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Nadia Murad and Ms. Murad’s co-laureate Denis Mukwege.

In 2017, Mrs. Clooney and Ms. Murad were instrumental in the passage of UNSC Resolution 2379 establishing an independent investigative team to gather evidence of ISIS’s crimes in Iraq.

Today Mrs. Clooney, who represents numerous Yazidi victims who have suffered sexual violence at the hands of ISIS militants, spoke to the critical importance of pursuing international justice for victims and of holding perpetrators of sexual violence to account.
