Amal Clooney to represent the Maldives in Myanmar Genocide Case

Amal Clooney, a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers, will represent the Maldives in the pending case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding the genocide committed against Rohingyas in Myanmar. Through a statement released today, the Maldives’ Ministry of Foreign affairs announced its decision to seek to intervene in the case with Ms. Clooney as their counsel.

Regarding her representation in this matter, Ms. Clooney commented:

“I am delighted to have been asked to represent the Maldives before the International Court of Justice. Accountability for genocide in Myanmar is long overdue and I look forward to working on this important effort to seek judicial remedies for Rohingya survivors.”
