Cara Hall, Louise Willocx, Hannah Smith and Nikila Kaushik join Doughty Street as Full Tenants

We are delighted to announce that Cara Hall, Louise Willocx, Hannah Smith and Nikila Kaushik have successfully completed their pupillages and join Doughty Street as tenants. 

About Cara 

Cara joints Chambers following completion of a pupillage specialising in housing law. During her pupillage, she acted in all manner of housing cases including disrepair, all types of possession claim, anti-social behaviour injunctions and unlawful eviction claims, as well as homelessness judicial reviews and section 204 appeals. She looks forward to receiving further instructions in these matters as a tenant. 

Cara is very much committed to housing law, having worked as a Housing Supervisor at a Legal Aid provider prior to coming to the Bar.

About Louise 

Louise specialises in criminal law, extradition law, international criminal law, and international human rights law. She appears in the Crown Court, Youth Court, and Magistrates Court and has a particular interest in working with young and vulnerable defendants. She combines her domestic criminal practice with international law, and has extensive experience advising and litigating in international crime and human rights. 

Prior to coming to the Bar, Louise worked as a judicial assistant at Colombia’s transitional justice tribunal advising on international criminal law in high-profile cases against the FARC leadership. She also worked as a legal assistant for an extradition silk for two years, drafting submissions and conducting research in high profile cases.

About Hannah 

Hannah specialises in immigration, inquests, civil actions against authorities and related areas of public law. She has appeared in the High Court, County Court, First-tier Tribunal, the Upper Tribunal and the Coroners’ Courts. 

Prior to joining the bar, Hannah worked as a solicitor, first in the public law team at an international law firm and then at the AIRE Centre, where she represented clients in EU-law related immigration and social welfare appeals, contributed to third-party interventions before the highest UK and European Courts, and delivered training for judges in the Western Balkans to further understanding and implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights.

About Nikila 

Nikila’s practice is focussed on public international law and media law.  

Nikila’s international law practice encompasses international criminal law cases, public international law advisory work, matters involving UN Special Procedures, and proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights.  

Nikila was supervised by Claire Overman during her third seat of pupillage and gained exposure to a range of media and information law work, including defamation, open justice, and contempt. 

Before transferring to the Bar, Nikila qualified and practised as a solicitor in Australia.
