Cara specialises in housing law and accepts instructions across the full range of matters within that area including disrepair, possession claims, anti-social behaviour injunctions and unlawful eviction claims. She also undertakes homelessness work including judicial reviews and section 204 appeals.
Cara is particularly interested in claims for unfitness for human habitation, claims for unlawful eviction, and claims concerning disability or other forms of discrimination, regularly acting for disabled or otherwise vulnerable individuals. Cara also particularly enjoys acting in claims concerning alleged anti-social behaviour.
Prior to joining Doughty Street, Cara worked as a Housing Supervisor under a Legal Aid contract at Citizens Advice. Cara regularly advised across all areas of housing and homelessness law within the scope of Legal Aid. She managed her own caseload, acting for vulnerable members of the community including non-English speakers, victims of domestic abuse and people lacking mental capacity.
Cara also acted under the Housing Possession Court Duty Scheme every week, providing last minute emergency advice and representation for tenants and borrowers facing eviction. She therefore has extensive County Court advocacy experience and an eye for procedural issues and arguable defences in all types of possession claim.
