Cranston Inquiry Full Hearings Begin

Hearings commenced in the Cranston Inquiry this week, chaired by Sir Ross Cranston. The Inquiry will investigate the UK’s worst small boats disaster, when at least 27 people lost their lives crossing the English Channel in a small boat in November 2021.

Hearings will take place over four weeks, during which time the Inquiry will hear evidence from a survivor of the incident, families of victims, government departments and agencies, and organisations involved in search and rescue in the English Channel.

Rowena Moffatt is instructed as a junior counsel to the Inquiry, led by Rory Phillips KC. Sarah Dobbie represents the families of the bereaved families and one survivor of the tragedy, led by Sonali Naik KC, instructed by Duncan Lewis.

The opening statements were given on Monday and can be read here.
