Garry Green secures murder acquittal at the Old Bailey

In his first leading trial since being recommended to the rank of Kings’ Counsel, Garry Green defended a 17yr old boy accused of the murder of Hazrat Wali, an 18 yr-old Afghan refugee.

Garry’s client, Boy A, (who can’t be named because of his age) was accused of killing Mr Wali in October 2021 in Craneford Park Twickenham, close to Richmond College which both boys attended.  On the day of the incident Boy A had been sentenced at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court for carrying a knife 2 months earlier.

On the day of the incident the 2 boys became involved in a confrontation after Boy A made a rude remark about Mr Wali and his girlfriend. Mr Wali confronted Boy A which resulted in a fight.  Boy A accepted stabbing Mr Wali to the chest but claimed he acted in self-defence.  The prosecution case against Boy A was that Mr Wali was unarmed, he ,Boy A, was  the aggressor and was an habitual knife carrier.  Recorded telephone calls were also used against Boy A  in which the prosecution claimed  he boasted to friends about stabbing Mr Wali.  After a 3-week trial the jury, at the Old Bailey, found Boy A not guilty of murder.

Garry was instructed by Shila Keshvari of Edward Fail Bradshaw & Waterson and led Michael Goold at Garden Court Chambers.
