Harj Narulla represents Solomon Islands at Santa Marta, Colombia conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels

Harj Narulla is attending the First Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels, hosted by Colombia and The Netherlands in Santa Marta, Colombia and held between 24-29 April.

The landmark conference will be attended by over 60 States and will be an opportunity for States, sub-national governments and civil society actors to collaborate on the transition away from fossil fuels in a just, orderly and equitable manner in line with Paris Agreement mitigation targets and best available science.

The conference is operating as a complement to the annual COP climate conference. It will drive support for the Belém Declaration on the Transition Away from Fossil Fuels and will seek to provide a basis for a future Fossil Fuel Treaty.

Harj will be representing Solomon Islands at the talks. He will attend the academic stakeholder meetings on 24-25 April, before attending the High-Level Segment on 27-29 April, attended by Ministers and other State representatives.

Harj previously represented Solomon Islands at COP30 in Belém, and as counsel before the ICJ in its landmark proceedings on climate change, including making oral submissions before the Court in December 2024.
