Joel Bennathan QC and Henrietta Hill QC appointed High Court Judges to the Queen’s Bench Division

Doughty Street Chambers is delighted to announce that Joel Bennathan QC and Henrietta Hill QC have been appointed High Court Judges to the Queen’s Bench Division as of 11th January 2022.

Joel headed our Criminal Law & Appeals team, having worked in serious and complex crime.

Henrietta has led Doughty Street as Joint Deputy Head of Chambers. She has been a leading silk in Inquests, Public Inquiries and Police Law.

Our Joint Head of Chambers, Edward Fitzgerald QC said:

“Doughty Street congratulate Joel Bennathan and Henrietta Hill on their appointment as High Court Judges. Our loss is the judiciary’s gain. Joel Bennathan is a towering figure in the field of criminal law, with a brilliant track record both as a trial advocate and an appellate lawyer in the Court of Appeal, High Court and the Privy Council. Henrietta Hill had a massive and successful practice in the fields of discrimination, public law, inquests and inquiries. We in Chambers will greatly miss their presence as colleagues and are grateful for all the work Henrietta performed as Deputy Head of Chambers and Head of the Equality and Diversity Committee, and all the magnificent work that Joel Bennathan did as Head of the Criminal Practitioners Team. We look forward to appearing before them and are sure that they will continue to dispense justice with wisdom and compassion in their new role as High Court Judges.”

Doughty Street wishes Joel and Henrietta all the very best for continued success in the next exciting stage of their careers.
