Joel Bennathan QC secures successful appeal in terrorist case in the Court of Appeal

Old Bailey Judge failed to allow for grooming...

The Court of Appeal yesterday reduced the sentence of Safaa Boular, convicted in 2018 of two terrorist offences, Safaa was Britain's youngest woman to be convicted of plotting a terror attack. 

Lord Justice Holroyd, giving the judgment, commented that while the Court would rarely interfere with the view taken by a judge who has presided over a trial, they felt that in this case His Honour Judge Dennis QC had not made sufficient allowance for the damaging upbringing and the grooming that this young defendant had undergone.
