Karlia Lykourgou nominated for Inspirational Woman of the Year, Under 35 Lawyer of the Year

Doughty Street Chambers is delighted to announce Karlia Lykourgou has been nominated for Inspirational Woman of the Year, Under 35 at the First 100 Years Project’s Inspirational Women in Law Awards 2020.

The Inspirational Women in Law Awards seek to identify the trailblazers of the profession in the lead up to the centenary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919, which paved the way for women to practise law.

Karlia is a criminal defence specialist with a practice that includes extradition and public law. She is an experienced court advocate who regularly represents clients in serious and complex cases involving violence, weapons, trafficking, sexual offences, drugs, theft and fraud.

This year, Karlia founded Ivy & Normanton, the first legal outfitter dedicated to legal attire for women. Her courtwear range addresses the male default in legal clothing, with tunic shirts, collars and collarettes designed to fit female bodies. Her accompanying blog “I&N Women” documents women’s day-to day experiences in the legal profession.

Ivy & Normanton is named after Ivy Williams – the first woman to be called to the Bar in May 1922 and Helena Normanton, who was the second woman to be called in November 1922. Ivy & Normanton is similarly committed to growth and diversity in the legal profession, encouraging all women to attend court with confidence.
