Stephen Cragg QC and Benjamin Newton appointed as Recorders

Doughty Street Chambers is proud to announce that Stephen Cragg QC and Benjamin Newton have been appointed as Recorders, sitting on the South Eastern and Western Circuit.

The Queen has appointed 118 Recorders on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, The Right Honourable Robert Buckland QC MP, and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, The Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon. The appointments will take effect from 12 October 2020.

Stephen’s public law practice includes human rights areas, data protection, regulatory, commercial and social welfare law.  He has a special interest in public law cases involving the criminal justice system, information rights, community care and health law, and coroners’ inquests. Read more about Stephen here.

Benjamin is instructed to defend those accused of the most serious and complex criminal offences, and regularly appears in high profile and legally significant cases. Benjamin has substantial experience across all areas of criminal law, but has particular expertise in relation to financial crime, serious sexual offences, and murder/manslaughter.
