Tayyiba Bajwa secures acquittal of Extinction Rebellion protesters by Magistrates’ Court

Two university students, Estella Meachin-Taylor and Frances Henderson, had participated in the 8 October 2019 XR protests on Millbank. Both had “glued” their hands to the floor in protest to raise awareness about the climate emergency.

Both defendants were acquitted after a trial at City of London Magistrates Courts on the basis of legal submissions made by Tayyiba Bajwa and Jake Carr about the nature of the obstruction presented by the defendants in the context of a much larger protest, the significant police presence at the protest and the undisputed fact of police roadblocks obstructing access to Millbank.

Tayyiba Bajwa represented Estella Meachin Taylor and Jake Carr of Nexus Chambers represented Frances Henderson, instructed by Lucy Astley of Robert Lizar Solicitors.
