Woman taken off Children’s Barred List
Omran Belhadi, instructed by Ghazi Abbas of Knightsbridge Solicitors, represented AB, a woman placed on the Children’s Barred List. This prevented her from working with children and vulnerable adults.
The Disclosure and Barring Service (“DBS”) placed her on the Barred List based partly on allegations that she held views supportive of ISIS. She was never charged with a criminal offence relating to these allegations.
Omran drafted written representations arguing that AB did not hold the views alleged. He further argued that, even if the DBS found she did, the test is whether she presents a safeguarding risk. He argued that based on all the evidence presented, she did not represent such a risk.
Following consideration of the representations, the DBS agreed to remove AB from the Children’s Barred List.
