IICSA is investigating institutional responses to widespread child sexual abuse at children’s homes and a culture of corruption within Lambeth Council

Aswini Weereratne QC and Sam Jacobs are currently acting on behalf of two core participants Anna Tapsell and LA-A24 in the Lambeth Council investigation strand of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse. Anna Tapsell was a Lambeth councillor and whistleblower from the early 1990s who made strenuous attempts to have the safety of children in the care of John Carroll, a convicted sex offender, and wider allegations of the production of child pornography on Lambeth premises for commercial gain, fully investigated. LA-A24 was a child in care at Shirley Oaks children’s home in the early 1970s. The Inquiry is investigating allegations of widespread sexual abuse within children’s homes run by Lambeth Council, including within a culture of corruption, and poor child protection practice. Simpson Millar solicitors are instructing.

Amelia Nice of Doughty Street Chambers is junior counsel to this investigation.

The hearings are being conducted remotely between 29 June - 10 July, and 20-  31 July 2020.
