Metropolitan Police apologise unreservedly and pay compensation to man fathered by undercover police officer

The Metropolitan Police has apologised and paid an undisclosed sum in compensation to a man who was fathered by an undercover police officer who had formed a long-term relationship with his mother in the 1980s. The man discovered, at the age of 26, that his father was not a protestor as he had previously believed, but Bob Lambert, an undercover police officer. Mr Lambert had deceived his mother into an intimate relationship as part of an operation to infiltrate animal rights and environmental groups. Mr Lambert abandoned his son at the age of two.

Heather Williams QC and Fiona Murphy acted for the man, known only as ‘TBS’, instructed by Jules Carey of Bindmans.
