Nick Toms secured a finding of direct race discrimination against Colchester Borough Council on behalf of an Asian non-white employee

Nick Toms has secured a finding of direct race discrimination against Colchester Borough Council on behalf of an Asian non-white employee in Singh v Colchester Borough Council.  The employment tribunal concluded that Mr Singh had been subject to direct race discrimination through the council not allowing him to apply for a post of Business Partner in their Information Technology department and then subsequently refusing to extend his contract as an IT Project Manager.  They also found a comment made by his direct line manager amounted to direct race discrimination.

Local authorities are public bodies with a duty to promote race equality. They clearly failed on this occasion.
