Omran and Maryam’s clients found not guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent

Omran Belhadi and Maryam Mir represented two cousins, S and M charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent in a joint enterprise attack at a house party. The complainant and his then girlfriend alleged Omran’s client had punched and kicked the complainant to the head and Maryam’s client had struck him to the head with a metal garden chair causing a deep wound requiring 7 sutures. Omran, acting for D1, cross examined the complainant about his conduct as the agressor outside the property captured on Ringo doorbell footage, where he called for someone to bring him a gun and made threats to kill. Maryam undermined the evidence of the complainants girlfriends who, it was said, had sent self serving text messages to try and concoct a false narrative after the occupants of the house called for police to attend. Co-defending, Martin Hawkes (ABV) represented the second defendant who was also a family relation. The jury acquitted all three defendants of all counts after 3 hours of deliberations.
