Sarah Elliott QC and Farrhat Arshad secure quashing of convictions at Court of Appeal

In R v BQC [2021] EWCA Crim 1944, the Court of Appeal Criminal Division allowed BQC’s appeal against conviction on 26 counts of sexual offending.   BQC had been convicted after trial in November 2020.  The Appeal was based on four Grounds, including material mis-directions and the trial judge’s refusal to provide written directions either to counsel or to the jury.  In quashing the convictions, the CACD stressed the importance of written directions in cases where there were complicated directions of law as there were here.

Sarah and Farrhat were instructed by Caroline Woodley at OBW Perera Solicitors, Colchester.
