Dealing with vulnerability in immigration and asylum proceedings – best practice and case-law update

This seminar is intended to assist practitioners who deal with vulnerable clients in immigration and asylum cases. We will explore potential issues arising in respect of vulnerability due to age, health and other reasons at each stage of the tribunal proceedings and aim to offer best practice guidance as to how those issues should be raised and addressed.

The seminar will cover the following topics:

i.   Identifying vulnerability and supporting the participation of clients in the appeals process

ii.  Considering and dealing with issues of capacity

iii. Pre-hearing steps – how to ensure the Tribunal is best prepared for dealing with a vulnerable appellant

iv. Using tribunal guidance and case-law

v.  Self-care

After the talks there will be plenty of time for discussion and knowledge-sharing. Breakfast will be provided.
